Veta, Christina. 2024. Looking. Master's thesis, Harvard University Division of Continuing Education.Abstract
“Looking” is a suspenseful, literary memoir following Christina Veta, a young, female journalist who learns the shocking truth of who she is and what has happened to her by men in positions of power. At age nineteen, Christina learns her father recorded her as a minor for a personal pornography collection, using a hidden camera clock in her bathroom. The police called her a “good victim,” as the star of his most incriminating video. At age twenty-six, after spending years trying to move from “good victim” to simply good, she learns that a university doctor did the same, recording her nude during a gynecology appointment when she was a seventeen-year-old freshman. She made that doctor’s appointment to seek help, after a sexual assault by another man she trusted. “Looking” begs the reader to wonder in the face of life-threatening, post-traumatic stress disorder, will Christina survive long enough to see justice?Terms of Use
