It is April 1995, and I’ve just graduated from one of southern Africa’s best journalism schools, the Harare Polytechnic. It is time to put into practice what I learned over the past two years. The assignment was easy. Soon after getting a job, the beats I concentrated on were the courts and consumer issues.Fast forward to 2000 and things have fallen apart. The honeymoon is suddenly over and my journalism training does not help me. Many other Zimbabwean journalists are thrown into the deep end as the ZANU‐PF government embarks on a violent campaign to remain in office.
