Grimes, Charlotte. "Whither the Civic Journalism Bandwagon?" Shorenstein Center Discussion Paper Series 1999.D-36, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, February 1999.Abstract
Grimes’s examination not only gives us a compelling history of the rise of civic journalism that raises many questions about both its aims and its successes. It is indispensable for setting standards by which the civic journalism movement should be judged. She adroitly notes how much of the popularity of the idea of civic journalism may be precisely due to how ambiguous, sometimes all-inclusive a term it is. When its theories are brought down to earth, she shows, the record of civic journalism in practice is decidedly mixed.Terms of Use
