What if one girl faced down a greedy, political regime to save an alien species? That’s what sixteen-year-old ward Ximena sets out to do in PHUEL, a young adult climate fiction novel. Set in a speculative future where Earth is in the midst an energy crisis, Ximena follows her best friend Aggie when she joins the Eco Warriors–a terrorist group that will do anything to protect living beings, even ones who aren’t on earth. The problem is, they’ve been fooled by the Pro-Growthers, who are determined to mine Phurnicite on Titan. While Ximena goes on missions and gets trapped behind enemy lines, she realizes her feelings for Aggie go much deeper than friendship. But their relationship is more precarious than ever as Aggie rises through the ranks and Ximena is threatened with being iced. Just how far is Ximena willing to go to be with the girl she loves?Terms of Use
